Edion are genetically engineered to be the perfect tributes to the gods. While the kayori have changed the laws, and Edion are no longer sacrificed at the altars of the great temples, the Edion are still virtually enslaved to the god of their element, thou=rough an unbreakable psychic bond known as the heyora. Their god, or AnKi-on (plural AnKien) is their entire reason for being, and their whole universe. it is impossible for an Edion not to love his, her, or their AnKi-on.

Several Edion are created each year for their gods, to ensure that there are enough tributes for the major festivals. Edion are no longer slain, but offered up to their gods sexually. All are claimed, and all are willing. Some of the luckier edion are chosen to live with their gods. Those who do live among their gods, are destined to evolve into ed'iori, creatures of magic and light who are no longer eiodn, but become minor gods of keldra in their own right. Ed'iori are just as innocent and joyful as edion, but they have more power, and are capable of fighting in battle with their AnKien. they are formidable complements to the armies of the gods.
